St. Vincent dePaul’s Youth House

Junior League of Eugene (JLE) is collaborating with St. Vincent de Paul during the development of a Youth House for 16-18 year old girls in the former Cascade Presbyterian Church located at 3350 Willamette St, Eugene, OR 97405.

The Youth House will fit 14 young women, and they are already checking a few into the shelter this month. A manager will live on-site, and the house will include a community space, kitchen, laundry, counseling office and computer lab. Each student-resident will be assigned a mentor, and a full-time caseworker will help youth connect to social services and work with students, mentors and school officials to create individualized life plans.

This project will provide a safe place for girls to live for up to 24 months while they stay in school, and work towards re-building their lives. To help, JLE has volunteered to create Welcome Kits for these girls to receive upon arrival. These kits will be the warm welcome they need to settle in to their new rooms. We hope to create 20 Welcome Kits by June 2018, so the shelter is prepared for many women to come. JLE has also volunteered to provide the shelter with the necessary supplies for their kitchen so the girls can cook in their new home.

To purchase items for the Welcome Kit, open our Google Spreadsheet to register for the items you wish to provide. Remember to mark the spreadsheet with the items you are purchasing so we do not receive uneven numbers. Then please bring your purchased items to US Bank at 800 Willamette Street, Suite 300, Eugene, Oregon 97407. If you have questions about the registry, please contact Nicole at coltranepropertiesllc@gmail.com or 541-852-2203.

To purchase items for the kitchen, please visit the registries at Target and Crate & Barrel. Please bring purchased items to the February 5th GMM at Capitello Wines, or email our Community Enrichment Committee at community@jleugene.org to make other drop-off/pick-up arrangements.

For more information about this and other JLE projects, please contact our Community Enrichment Committee at community@jleugene.org.
